July 1, 2014 (CHAPEL HILL, NC) Thought Leader Select, a research and consulting firm serving the life sciences industries, has initiated new research and consulting work in support of a top global biopharmaceutical company’s developing portfolio of treatments for head and neck cancer.
The firm’s latest engagement in support of the collaborative work among life sciences companies and leaders in the medical community consists of detailed research and engagement planning for work with experts at Canadian centers of excellence in head and neck cancer. The client company, known worldwide as a leader in the development of prescription medicines, has engaged Thought Leader Select for more support in multiple therapeutic areas and disease states, including key opinion leader and centers of excellence identification and profiling in multiple cancers, diabetes, and infectious diseases.
According to the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health, head and neck cancers originate in the squamous cells that line the moist areas of the head and neck. Alcohol and tobacco use, as well as exposure to human papilloma virus, are important risk factors related to the development of many incidences of head and neck cancer. Physicians diagnose nearly half a million new cases of head and neck cancers worldwide each year.
Thought Leader Select, headquartered in the Research Triangle Park region of North Carolina, provides research and consulting services to companies in the life sciences industry, including pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and diagnostics companies. These custom-tailored services support the necessary and critical industry outreach to and collaboration with leading medical experts, the health care professionals that advance treatment options and promote better public health at regional, national, and global levels.
For the new engagement, Thought Leader Select’s in-house research team will identify and profile key experts and Canadian centers of excellence where they see patients and conduct cutting edge research in head and neck cancer. The KOL profiles will touch upon critical skill and experience areas such as clinical trial work, publishing in scientific journals, speaking at medical meetings and congresses, as well as patient advocacy and regulatory efforts. Center profiles will include areas such as the geographic footprint of each clinical network as well as programs to develop young doctors in the therapeutic area of head and neck cancer.
Thought Leader Select will also analyze the breadth and depth of the respective physicians’ social networks, through Professional Impact Network analysis and geographic segmentation of global, national, and regional KOLs. In addition to the core research of the skills and experience of the key opinion leaders in the treatment of head and neck cancer, Thought Leader Select’s consulting team will make strategic recommendations for optimizing activities with KOLs with respect to compliance, transparency, and team optimization.
The company’s post-research advisory support will include engagement planning for strategic areas such as advisory board and consultant selection, as well as KOL collaborations in publications and conference planning, patient advocacy work, and many other areas.
“We are elated to partner with one of the global leaders in preserving and improving the quality of life for cancer patients,” stated Neil Mellor, the company’s global business development consultant based in Toronto. “Our research team has proven itself with sustained excellence in researching thought leaders and centers of excellence in nearly a dozen different types of cancer, and we know that our work is pivotal to establishing a foundation of understanding among life sciences companies and their medical community collaborators.”
